Local York County small business lands Top Design Award

YORK, PA, October 20, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — 1881 Salt Sanctuary was awarded “Best Design / Best Customer Experience” honor for 2023 at the Salt Therapy Association’s national conference in Indianapolis this past September.

Key factors in their nomination included a Moon Phase feature that consists of eight lighted moon sculptures that are sequentially lit every five minutes during the 45 minute salt therapy session. The main Salt room is covered from floor to ceiling in Himalayan salt, salt bricks and tiles. Himalayan Salt decor is used throughout the building including archways, cabinet fronts, and is the highlight of the front desk in the retail area.

Robbi McClane, one of the co-owners along with her daughter Nicole McClane, stated that “We highly encourage our clients to relax as much as possible during their session and ideally to fall asleep – as the more relaxed one is the deeper they will breathe in the salt, allowing maximum benefit”. To promote relaxation, clients are given heated neck wraps, salt pillows and stones and cell phones are discouraged from being taken into the salt rooms. The Moon phases allow individuals to recognize the amount of time left in their session if they happen to fall asleep and wake prior to the end of the session.

The salt room designs and natural decor usage within 1881 Salt Sanctuary were developed by Robbi McClane and brought to life by local artisans and craftsmen, Scott Grim and Jeffrey Hewitt. In addition to the salt decor, there are wood beams and custom made wood shelving, furniture, and decor that were all built by local wood craftspeople.

Dry Salt Therapy is most often used for Respiratory Wellness and is commonly used throughout Europe and Russia where salt therapy originated as health spas within various salt mines in the mid 1800’s. Today, salt therapy utilizes a machine, known as a halogenerator, to grind Himalayan Pharmaceutical grade salt into micro-particles that are circulated throughout a room. Salt is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory and when people are exposed to and breathe in the micro-particles it can be an effective part of treatment plans for a wide variety of respiratory and skin conditions.

1881 Salt Sanctuary, a holistic wellness center that opened in West Manchester Township in December 2022, offers three core therapies: Dry Salt Therapy, Massage Therapy, and an Herbal Apothecary. 1881 also features a retail area consisting of gemstones, crystals, handmade jewelry and other unique gifts.
