ARLINGTON, VA, February 28, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — EcoTek Power Wash has expanded services to provide laundry dryer vent cleaning. “Cleaning your lint filter is a good start. However, when you look at the statistics, you’ll understand why we consider dryer vent cleaning an important part of routine maintenance and preventive care for homeowners concerned about their family’s safety,” explained EcoTek’s CEO, Andrew Deutsch. “Sadly, house fires due to clogged dryer vents are extremely common. It’s an inexpensively avoidable problem that can be deadly. We proudly offer an affordable solution.” Deutsch added.

The outside vent of a clothes dryer is the final part of the system that is often overlooked by homeowners. If it becomes clogged, the dryer itself can overheat and catch fire. According to The US Fire Administration (FEMA), 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. A recent study by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) estimates an average of over 12,900 dryer fires each year in the United States resulting in property damage, injury, and death. The NFPA found the leading contributor to the ignition of house fires was failure to clean dryer vents. The study revealed that nearly one-third of all dryer fires and half of all dryer fire deaths are caused by uncleaned dryer equipment. Research focused on a variety of housing: single family, multifamily, duplexes, condominiums, townhouses, apartments, and row housing.

• Most house fires involved clothes dryers (92%).
• The leading cause (31%) of home clothes dryer and washer fires was failure to clean.
• The leading items first ignited in clothes dryer fires were dust, fiber, or lint (27%) and clothing (26%).

FEMA reports that from September to December, the number of dryer-related house fires rises from 6.7% to 9.0%. The report also indicates that 47% of these fires are caused by operational deficiencies with leading factor being a failure to properly clean. “We know that more home clothes dryer fires occur in the fall and winter months,” Deutsch noted. “That’s why we wanted to take an opportunity to make homeowners aware of this important routine service.”
