How Dr. Samantha DeLoache’s Pharmacy Career Began at Home with her Grandparents
ORANGEBURG, SC, December 14, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Growing up in Orangeburg, SC, Samantha DeLoache knew early on that she wanted to pursue a career in Pharmacy. While frequently helping her grandparents sort medicine in their pill organizers, she quickly learned the pronunciations and functions for medications and her passion for the medical field was ignited.
“Helping my grandparents with their daily medications helped to plant the seed that I could pursue a career in pharmacy. As I grew older, I realized that three pharmacists attended my church [Trinity United Methodist Church] and I began to study their careers closely,” shared Dr. DeLoache.
Continuing her education at Orangeburg -Wilkinson High School, DeLoache began shadowing local pharmacists at The Regional Medical Center, Jamison’s Pharmacy and the Family Health Centers to learn more about the career field.
After graduating from high school, Dr. DeLoache continued her education at Claflin University where she earned a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She earned a Master’s Degree from The Citadel and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
Utilizing her knowledge and skills to serve others in her community and communities aboard, Dr. DeLoache’s work has led her to travel throughout the United States and abroad to Guatemala, Nigeria, and the Dominican Republic as she ministered to the medical needs of others and raised funds for medical supplies.
“Even though our healthcare system is far from perfect here in the US, we are more blessed than we may realize. When I travel abroad, the natives in that area will stand in long lines for hours to receive medication and treatment. I feel beyond honored to be able to help individuals find hope in their situations and provide medical relief on some level. My role as a pharmacist and missionary is one that I do not take lightly and am forever grateful to be able to do,” continued Dr. DeLoache.
Currently serving patients in the Gastonia, NC area, Dr. DeLoache recognizes that many customers visit the pharmacy with apprehension because of their medical conditions, understanding the usage and dosages for medications and fearing the cost of medications.
“I keep the memories of me helping my grandparents with their medications at the forefront of my mind. I treat every patient as though they are my family members and strive to provide them with quality customer-centered experiences during each visit to the pharmacy,” said Dr. DeLoache.
Known as the ‘Modeling Pharmacist,’ Dr. DeLoache has merged her passion for pharmacy, modeling and motivational speaking to host workshops and presentations for youth, women and minority students on pursuing careers in STEM being represented in the field of pharmacy, and confidence-building.
